Back Injury whilst gardening...

The sun is out and for many of us it's time to get out into the fresh air and start digging, planting and getting to grips with a planting strategy to keep busy and the garden looking good throughout the rest of the year. But for some being overly keen with bending over to pick up heavy items or prolonged exposure to the overreach to avoid messing up the freshly prepared growing bed can be costly...

To reduce the chances of back injury during gardening it is important to know the proper way to work while standing or kneeling in the garden. Remember to bend with the knees, not from the waist.  Let gardening tools do the job for you and choose tools that have longer handles and are lightweight to help aid you.  Ask for assistance from others whenever lifting, pulling, or pushing heavy items. You may also find it helpful to stretch during and after yard work.

Raising your flowerbeds can make it easier by reducing the need to bend down to the ground. Vegpods are ideal for this and are available in a range of sizes and heights and can be positioned closer to the house or somewhere convenient should you require fresh vegetables to hand when cooking.
